Description

This creative quilt has a schoolhouse block in the center surrounded by four stars made out of small Log Cabin squares. The rest of the quilt is framed with larger Log Cabin squares using vintage fabrics. The pieced backing features a light green print of stones with a striped border.

Measurements:

Twin/Full/Double (81″ W x 106″ L)

A twin mattress is 38″ wide and 75″ long, therefore this quilt would have a 21.5″ drop on each side.

A full/double mattress is 54″ wide and 75″ long, therefore this quilt would have a 13.5″ drop on each side.

All quilts are long enough to allow for a significant drop at the foot of the bed as well as a nice pillow tuck so there is no need for shams.

About This Pattern:

The schoolhouse quilt block originated in the late 1800’s. It was inspired by women who taught in local schoolhouses because teaching was one of the only jobs women could have at the time.

Log Cabin quilts date back to when Abraham Lincoln was running for office. Because women could not vote, they made log cabin quilts to show their support for him as he lived in a log cabin. During the era of the Underground Railroad, a log cabin quilt hanging in the window of a Northern home indicated a safe house.
