Description
This beautiful quilt features a large compass in the center surrounded by thousands of small squares in rustic colors, including brown, maroons, olive greens, mustard yellows, beiges, and whites. The borders matching the prints throughout the quilt and the backing is a checkered green and beige print.
Measurements:
King (109″ W x 114″ L)
A regular king mattress is 76″ wide and 80″ long, therefore this quilt would have a 16.5″ drop on each side.
A California king mattress is 72″ wide and 84″ long, therefore this quilt would have an 18.5″ drop on each side.
All quilts are long enough to allow for a significant drop at the foot of the bed as well as a nice pillow tuck so there is no need for shams.
About This Pattern:
Specific to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, this pattern is also known as Trip Around the World to the Mennonite community, and Sunshine & Shadows to the Amish community. It is made by sewing together thousands of tiny squares in rows of contrasting colors to form diamond shapes. In the center is the Mariner’s Compass, a shape that was inspired by the compasses on antique maps. Sewing points of the compass together requires a technique known as “foundation paper-piecing.”
