Measurements:
King (113″ W x 115″ L)
A regular king mattress is 76″ wide and 80″ long, therefore this quilt would have an 18.5″ drop on each side.
A California king mattress is 72″ wide and 84″ long, therefore this quilt would have a 20.5″ drop on each side.
All quilts are long enough to allow for a significant drop at the foot of the bed as well as a nice pillow tuck so there is no need for shams.
About This Pattern:
Specific to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, this pattern is known as Trip Around the World to the Mennonite community, and Sunshine & Shadows to the Amish community. It is made by sewing together hundreds of tiny squares in rows of contrasting colors to form diamond shapes.
Log Cabin quilts are dated back to when Abraham Lincoln was running for office. Because women could not vote, they made log cabin quilts to show their support for him as he lived in a log cabin. During the era of the Underground Railroad, a log cabin quilt hanging in the window of a Northern home indicated a safe house.
Made by Mennonite quilter, Mabel
