Description
A twist on the traditional Center Diamond pattern by using the Crazy Patch technique. Crazy Patch quilts are made in a patchwork fashion where each patch is decorated with hand-embroidered flowers and different stitching techniques.
This border of this design was made with a wool crepe, a fabric often used in the Amish communities to make bed spreads and clothing. The use of solid colors in quilting has been a signature of the Amish and Old Order Mennonite communities of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania since the 1800’s.
At the bottom border, the quilter has stitched her initials and the year this piece was made.

Specific to the Amish community of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the Center Diamond is one of the oldest and most traditional quilting patterns. The central diamond symbolizes farm fields, and nature in general, which is a gift from God that allows us to grow and prosper.
