Description

A beautiful Lancaster County treasure, this Queen Dahlia quilt showcases one of the region’s most distinctive Amish-inspired designs. The Dahlia pattern begins with the geometry of an eight-pointed star, then blooms into something truly special with hand-appliquéd, gathered flower petals and a rounded center that gives the quilt a graceful three-dimensional effect.

This quilt is made in a lovely palette of purple and beige with a lilac floral print fabric, creating a soft yet elegant look for a bedroom. The Lilac floral print adds charm and movement, while the traditional Dahlia design gives the piece its heirloom quality.

Measuring 104″ x 113″, this quilt is generously sized for a Queen bed. It was made by Mabel M, a longtime friend of The Quilt Shop at Miller’s and a member of the Old Order Mennonite community. Mabel is known for creating interesting designs that are always a joy to see.

Queen (104″ W x 113L”)

A queen  mattress is 60″ wide and 80″ long, therefore this quilt would have a 22″ drop on each side.

All quilts are long enough to allow for a significant drop at the foot of the bed as well as a nice pillow tuck so there is no need for shams.

About This Pattern:

The Giant Dahlia pattern, first featured in the 1935 issue of Needlecraft: The Home Arts Magazine, is a stunning quilt design. Its intricate curves and sharp points made it an instant classic, admired for both its beauty and technical difficulty.

This quilt is not for beginners. It demands a precise approach, careful cutting, and advanced quilting skills. Each petal requires precision, and the curved edges add an extra challenge. But the result is worth the effort—an elegant, dynamic piece with bold curves and geometric patterns that resemble the layered petals of a dahlia flower. It pushes quilters to test their skills while offering the chance to create something truly breathtaking.
