Story Behind the Quilt:
- As shopkeepers of handmade items, we often have the pleasure of watching the stars align when a customer discovers a handmade quilt that truly lights up their world. This is one of those stories that makes us feel like the universe is in perfect harmony. It all started 15 years ago when a mother and her five-year-old son visited the shop. That day, he got to try his hand at quilting during a demonstration, leaving with two patchwork puppies and a heart full of inspiration. Over the next several years, he returned often, fascinated by the quilts and fabrics. Every time, he’d leave with the same words: “One day, I’ll bring in a quilt for you to sell for me!” That day has finally come, and with it, The First Cosmos—an original design—has made its debut.
- This stunning quilt won first place and best of show at the Old Country Store’s 2024 competition for quilters aged 19 and younger. Nikolas was the only participant to enter a completed quilt.

- The quilt boasts a celestial theme with bold circular designs that evoke stars and suns. Its color palette features shades of purple, navy blue, raspberry pink, white, and gold. The largest circular design, positioned at the center, showcases foundation paper piecing and is framed by a square border, with similar designs in each corner. The fabrics are mostly vibrant solids, with a few printed with planets, stars, and metallic dots. The backing is a rich purple, making the quilt reversible, while highlighting the delicate hand-quilting. The quilt label is signed by Nikolas and completes his masterpiece.
